Recovering Softcover #6: Procrastination, Part I

RECOVERsoft6a

Question: Where does procrastination come from?

Conscious: Procrastination stems from being overwhelmed or disinterested. Applied to our pens, procrastination can look like no drafts or a bunch of drafts. Both scenarios have something in common: they’re not being seen for their value.

Subconscious: …and neither are you. How do you see yourself as a writer? Do you leave room to be a student, an academic, a failure, a journalist, anything that the work needs or requires? The expectations we create for ourselves never fail to cage us in, intentionally or unintentionally.

Conscious: What does the work require? Find out and honor this.

Subconscious: Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t quite trust the value of your perspective just yet? Earn that trust with intentional research. Take time developing an opinion before you put it to use.

Conscious: If you are disinterested by a specific subject matter, say so or get to know it better. You have this choice to know as much as you’d like to.

Be well while greeting your work. It just needs you.

Love and support from my pen to yours,

Shanti
